About the Scholarships
TEFL Advisor Scholarship Program
The TEFL Advisor Scholarship is designed for TESOL/TEFL educators with a passion for improving English teaching methods. Grantees will spend 11 months as Academic Advisors for Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) and English Teaching Flagship (ETF) participants teaching Grades 1-9 in Taiwan.
Advisors will:
- Collaborate with ETAs and Local English Teachers (LETs) in Taiwan.
- Conduct school visits and classroom observations.
- Provide consultation and coordination to improve teaching strategies.
- Contribute to the development of a stronger English learning environment for young students.
This program not only allows grantees to share their expertise but also offers them a unique opportunity to experience Taiwan's vibrant culture and education system.
EMI Advisor Scholarship Program
The EMI Advisor Scholarship focuses on enhancing English-taught programs at Taiwanese universities. This role is ideal for experienced EMI instructors or professors eager to work in a multicultural academic setting.
Grantees will:
- Support Taiwanese universities in internationalizing their academic programs.
- Guide EMI program participants to improve course quality.
- Supervise ETF Teaching Assistants working closely with university students.
- Conduct consultations, classroom observations, and coordination to strengthen EMI practices.
EMI Advisors play a crucial role in shaping Taiwan’s approach to globalized education and contribute significantly to its academic progress.
Grant Duration
TEFL Advisor:
- 11 months: August 1 to June 30.
- Renewal for an additional 11 months may be considered.
EMI Advisor:
- 11 months: August 1 to June 30.
- 6 months: August 1 to January 31 or January 1 to June 30.
- Renewal for additional terms may be considered.
Benefits
The scholarships offer a comprehensive package to ensure grantees are well-supported during their time in Taiwan:
- Monthly stipend: NT$65,000 to NT$90,000 (based on qualifications).
- Round-trip airfare (for non-Taiwan residents).
- Settling-in allowance: NT$36,000 upon arrival.
- National Health Insurance: Coverage included.
- Travel reimbursement for work-related site visits.
- Hotel reimbursement: Up to NT$3,000 per night for business travel.
Eligibility Criteria
For TEFL Advisor Applicants
Master’s Degree Holders:
- Citizens of Taiwan or the U.S.
- Advanced English proficiency.
- Professional experience in TESOL/TEFL teaching or research.
Ph.D. Holders:
- Citizens of Taiwan or the U.S.
- At least two years of relevant teaching experience.
- Assistant professor rank (or equivalent) for at least two years.
For EMI Advisor Applicants
Master’s Degree Holders:
- Citizens of the U.S.
- Advanced English proficiency.
- Over two years of EMI or international student teaching/research experience.
Ph.D. Holders:
- Citizens of the U.S.
- Advanced English proficiency.
- More than two years of EMI teaching or international student program experience.
- Assistant professor rank (or equivalent) for at least two years.
